Equipment Catalog

The Digital Media Lab is closed through Thursday, April 25 as the entire second floor is being re-carpeted. We apologize for any inconvenience.

DIGITAL MEDIA LAB

The Digital Media Lab (DML) is a self-serve lab located on the 2nd floor of the Library. The DML offers equipment and software for getting creative with video, audio, and graphic design, as well as a microfilm scanner. The DML also offers equipment and software for converting outdated media formats and digitizing print and analog materials from your personal/family collections. The DML is not a soundproof audio/music recording space.

The DML opens at the same time the Library opens each day. The DML closes and must be vacated 15 minutes prior to the Library’s closing.

Using the Digital Media Lab

  • Only patrons working on digital media projects (video, music, graphics, photo editing, digitization, etc.) will be allowed access to the DML. Public use computers and study rooms are available elsewhere in the Library.
  • The DML is not a single occupancy room. More than one patron/group may be working in the lab at once, using different pieces of equipment.
  • Patrons must have a valid full-privilege library card in good standing to use the DML. Patrons ages 14 and over are eligible to use the DML independently. Patrons 13 and younger may use the DML with a parent/caregiver present.
  • Cardholders may use the DML once per day for up to three hours. Reservations for the DML may be made up to one week in advance. A cardholder is limited to one advance reservation per station per week. After a reservation has been used, if available, the cardholder can use equipment on a first come, first serve basis.
  • All equipment in the DML must stay in the DML.
  • Patrons must bring their own portable media storage such as a USB drive, SD card, external hard drive, or writable (W or RW) CDs or DVDs. Specific storage may be required for different pieces of equipment. Click here to visit the DML webpages for equipment specifications.
  • Headphones are available for use in the DML and may be checked out at the Adult Services Desk.
  • Earbuds, USB drives, SD cards, and DVD-R discs are available for purchase in the Library's office supply vending machine located in the Copy & Print Center.
  • No food or drink is allowed in the DML at any time.

Which DML terminal do I need?

  • DML1: A/V Editing Computer - A high-performance Windows computer that offers access to software for editing audio, videos, photos, and graphics; includes Windows Media Player, VLC Media Player, and a CD-ROM drive with burner for copying/burning CDs and DVDs. Some A/V editing software is available only on the DML1 computer. This terminal also includes the ScanPro Microfilm Scanner for viewing, editing, and saving content from microfilm and microfiche formats. Click here to visit the DML webpage for a software list.
  • DML2: Digitization & Media Conversion -  A Windows computer offering equipment and software to convert print and analog media to digital formats. This computer does not have a CD-ROM drive. Click here to visit the DML webpage for full details on conversion equipment requirements.
  • DML3: A/V Editing Computer - An Apple Mac Pro terminal that offers access to software for editing audio, videos, photos, and graphics. Some A/V editing software is available only on the DML3 computer. This computer does not have a CD-ROM drive. Click here to visit the DML webpage for a software list.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The Audio Cassette Converter requires access to the Audacity software. Audacity is available on either the DML1 or DML2 computer. However, if you plan to burn the converted MP3 files to a CD, you will need to use the DML1 terminal, as there is no CD burner on the DML2 computer.
